The Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Langley Local Immigration Partnership for a new collaboration that will explore ways of supporting internationally-trained professionals build new networks in the Langley business community.

23% of Langley’s residents are immigrants and newcomers, and they represent a critical component of our workforce and will play a critical role in addressing labour and skills shortages in the future.   That said, in a recent Langley-specific survey, only 48% of immigrant respondents were fully employed, with just 19% working in their respective fields.

Langley is growing and we have to work to ensure we’re welcoming and successfully integrating newcomers into not just our community, but our workforce as well,” says Cory Redekop, Langley Chamber CEO.  “Labour shortages and workforce challenges is still the #2 issue facing our member businesses, and ensuring everyone in Langley can fully participate and reach their potential will be critical to our economic success, and this new partnership is one more way the Chamber can support these efforts.

A primary focus of the Chamber x LLIP Collab will be a special event series entitled “Langley’s Workforce Future” which will discuss the experiences of newcomers, and find ways of helping their successful integration into the local workforce.   The Collab will host a series of six events focused on exploring and tapping into Langley's growing pool of immigrant talent. Through a combination of presentations, speakers, and roundtable engagements, these events will focus specifically on the obstacles internationally trained professionals face as they attempt to rebuild their professional networks, establish contacts, and re-enter the workforce, and work to help them build new professional ties into the Langley business community.

The “Langley’s Workforce Future” event series will run through to March 2025.  Scheduled sessions will be listed on the Chamber events calendar >
